Meet
Shelley
Shelley’s musical journey began as she eagerly played through the diverse collection of music on her mom's shelves. Those carefree hours spent as a child instilled in her a profound appreciation for the rich tapestry of the musical world, shaping her passion for music that continues to thrive today.
Since she was small, she has been able to see worlds inside people – all the emotions left untold, pain that craved being seen but too fearful to. Her experience working on a cruise ship, where she witnessed first hand the disconnect and disrespect among people, as well as the emotional baggages everyone carried on a daily basis. She knew it didn’t need to be this way. Things needed to change, and she decided to do something about it. After curating numerous concerts where she made sure to sneak in a message or two through speeches and the music she chose, Shelley has made this a staple in her performances as a means to connect people.
Two years ago, Shelley was diagnosed cPTSD and severe depression. This was the time when she had to almost stop playing the piano completely. She realised she too had a lot to work on within herself. Years of therapy and journey to recovery gave her a deep appreciation for the natural world, humanity, and compassion for everyone who’s on their own journey-- we all have secrets, pain, battles we have to fight, and music makes us realise how connected we are through our common experience of these core emotions. She hopes that through being open, vulnerable, sharing our stories, we allow ourselves to be seen. If there's only one message that one can take away, she hopes it's this: we are never meant to be kept in the dark spaces all by ourselves.
